Last chance to enter our competition

This is it, the last day of Occupational Therapy week and your last chance to enter our daily competition for a place on one of our Home Adaptations for Professionals courses or a year’s subscription to DLF ProAssist.

This week the RCOT has been promoting how Occupational Therapists are on the frontline of health equity and can use their skills to effectively tackle the challenges people face to improve health for all.

Three key areas quoted are Schools, Housing and Work. OT’s work across these areas to help improve the lives of those within these services.

The DLF also works to help those within these services by working with key partners to provide information, advice and training to bring practical solutions to those in need.

For schools, we have provided moving and handling training to key staff within organisations to enable students with a disability to still interact in the same activities as their peers.

In employment, DLF works with its parent body, Shaw Trust, to provide advice on technologies that can enable someone to access workplaces more effectively.

In housing DLF works with bodies such as Foundations to provide training to upskill staff to get adaptation solutions to those in need as quickly as possible.

We also work directly with the public to help to educate and support the option of self-purchase of equipment. DLF supports those who are unsure what solutions are available with free impartial guided advice and product information and also provides a forum to discuss needs with peers. To see more about the services we offer, please head to livingmadeeasy.org.uk or pass our helpline number to your clients, open 9-5 Monday to Friday on 0300 999 0004.

Today’s fifth and final module is one of our favourites, Plans and Grants. As an Occupational Therapist, we rarely get much time dedicated in training to looking at the next step on from our recommendations. Plans and Grants teaches learners about how to read plans, understand the basics of construction and look at how grants are allocated and an OT’s role within this. Headed up by a surveyor with years of experience in adaptations under DFG’s, this course guarantees you will learn something new.
